International Brand

Brand models include F5 from the National Institute of Mining Machinery in Hungary and F5 from Ukraine ДК- Class 3.

 

From the mid-1960s to the late 1970s. This stage is a period of vigorous development for coal tunnel boring machines, which weigh around 20-40t. Representative models include RH25 from Anderson in the UK, AM50 from Alpine in Austria, and MRH-100 from Mitsui Sanchi in Japan.

 

From the late 1970s to the late 1980s. At this stage, the semi coal rock excavation machine began to mature, with a large number of heavy-duty machines emerging. The coal roadway excavation function was complete, and the reliability was greatly improved, with a machine weight of about 50t. Representative models include the MK IIB and LH1300 from the UK's Dusk company, the AM75 from Alpine in Austria, and the E169 from Borat in Germany.

 

From the late 1980s to the early 21st century. At this stage, the weight of heavy machinery further increased, usually above 70t, with a cutting hardness of over 100Mpa. The tunneling machine adopted new technology, with more complete functions and mature computer control devices. The tunneling machine is advancing towards the rock roadway.

The current tunneling machine has entered the era of mechatronics integrated automatic control cutting. The continuous coal mining machines represented by the United States and Australia, as well as the anchor digging units put into use in the late 1980s, have opened up a new way and era of rapid excavation. The main brands include Alpine in Austria, Dusk, Anderson, and Emk in the UK, Scharzat, Eickhoff, Paulat, Westphaly in Germany, Mitsui Sanchi in Japan, and factories in Ukraine. The main series include AM, E, ET, STM, MRH, and П K et al.

It is worth mentioning that Alpine in Austria became Voest Alpine (VAI) after restructuring in 1976. In 1990, VAI produced the world's first ABM20 anchor digging machine and delivered it to the Tahmoor Colliery Australian coal mine. VAI was later acquired by Sandvik and, on the basis of ABM20, officially launched the MB670 anchor digging machine in 2007 at the Sandvik factory in the small town of Celtweg, Austria. This is the end of the ABM20 era and the beginning of the all-new MB670 anchor excavator. The MB670 anchor excavation integrated machine has ushered in an era of anchor excavation operations that integrates excavation and anchor protection: it can achieve synchronous cutting, loading, and support, parallel operation, and one-time tunneling. This is a revolution in coal mining operations, and the MB670 series model is still a classic work learned by many factories in China.

 

Chinese Brand

 

Chininese self-produced tunneling machines started relatively late, but after rapid development in the past two decades, they have become the world's largest producer of coal mining tunneling machines, accounting for about 70% of the world's total production. The main brand enterprises include Sany Heavy Equipment, Shanxi TianDi Coal Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd., Shanghai ChuangLi, Shan Neng Equipment, Shanghai Coal Science and Technology, LinZhou Heavy Machinery Group Co., Ltd., Nanjing Chenguang Group Co., Ltd., and so on. In 2022, China produced 2613 tunneling machines throughout the year, with Sany Heavy Duty Tunneling Machine ranking first in China's market share for consecutive years, followed by Shanxi TianDi Coal Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd., and Shanghai ChuangLi.
